More about Suor Prat

Why Visit:

Prasat Suor Prat is a unique and intriguing temple complex in Angkor Thom, Cambodia, known for its series of twelve nearly identical towers lined north to south. It offers visitors a rare glimpse into ancient Khmer architecture and religious practices, with detailed carvings and an unusual design featuring multiple levels and interconnected chambers. The towers evoke mystery regarding their original purpose, with historic accounts suggesting they were used for divine judgment during disputes or, romantically, for tightrope dancing acrobatics during royal festivals.

Activities:

  • Explore the twelve individual towers made of laterite and sandstone, appreciating their unique architectural style.
  • Observe intricate carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Buddhist deities and scenes from ancient Cambodian life.
  • Reflect on historical theories about the towers’ functions, including their role in settling disputes through “divine judgment” as recorded by the Chinese emissary Zhou Daguan.
  • Visit nearby Angkor Thom attractions like the Terrace of the Elephants and the Victory Gate to complete the historical experience.

Ticket Price:

Included in the Angkor Archaeological Park entrance ticket. The current ticket prices are:

Visitor Tips:

  • Wear comfortable shoes as the site involves walking across uneven surfaces.
