More about Phnom Sampov

Why Visit:
Phnom Sampov (Phnom Sampeau) is a striking limestone mountain about 12 km southwest of Battambang city. It is both a spiritual site with temples and stupas, and a historical memorial due to its tragic role during the Khmer Rouge, when its caves were used as execution sites known as the “Killing Caves.” Today, visitors can see Buddhist shrines, a giant reclining Buddha, and memorial stupas dedicated to the victims. Phnom Sampov is also famous for its bat cave spectacle, where millions of bats pour out at sunset, creating one of the most unique natural shows in Cambodia. Combined with panoramic countryside views, Phnom Sampov offers a mix of history, culture, spirituality, and nature.

Open Hours:
Accessible daily, generally from early morning until evening (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM).
