Why Visit:

Phnom Bok is a serene and less crowded Hindu temple perched atop a natural hill, offering visitors a unique mix of ancient Khmer architecture, spiritual significance, and spectacular panoramic views of the lush landscapes of Siem Reap, including Tonlé Sap Lake and Phnom Kulen. The temple, part of a trio of hilltop temples built in the late 9th to early 10th century during the reign of King Yasovarman I, holds high historical value and is dedicated to the Hindu Trimurti (Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu), with intricate stone carvings reflecting the artistry of the Khmer Empire.

Activities:

  • Climb the long staircase or winding jungle path to the temple at the hilltop.
  • Explore the temple ruins and appreciate the detailed carvings and statues related to the Trimurti.
  • Enjoy the peaceful ambiance ideal for meditation and reflection.
  • Take in breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding rice fields, Tonlé Sap Lake, Phnom Kulen, and the Eastern Baray area.
  • Photograph the scenic vistas and ancient temple architecture.

Experience a tranquil retreat away from the main tourist crowds.

Visitor Tips:

  • Avoid visiting during the hottest part of the day; early morning or late afternoon is recommended both for comfort and photogenic lighting.
  • Carry plenty of water, comfortable walking shoes, and sun protection.
  • Respect the temple as a sacred site and maintain silence.
  • Be prepared for a moderate climb up the 600+ steps to the temple.
  • Note that the temple is secluded and less frequented, so plan transportation accordingly.
  • Avoid photographing nearby military installations.

Best Time to Visit:
